Martin Luther King


Who is he? (1 sentence)

Martin Luther King mainly legacy was to ensure progress on civil rights in the USA and he is frequently referenced as a human rights icon today.

Why is he a role model? (3 sentences)

His efforts led to the 1963, where King delivered his, "i have a dream" speech that he gave to everyone. He became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to the end racial segreation and racial discrimination through civil disobedince and other non-violent means, which is against the law. King was a civil right activist early in his career.

Emily Murphy and Anges MacPhail

Who are they? (1 sentence).
Emily Murphy was the 1ST senatar in the 1930s'. She is best known for her contributions to Canadian feminism, specifically to the question of whether women were "persons case" under Canadian law.
Agnes McPhail was the first woman to be elected to the Canadian House of Commons, and one of the first two women elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.

Why were they role models? (3 sentences).
Emily's experience was in court against drugs, in particular opium, and marijuana.
Agnes Macphail joined the socialist ginger group, faction of the progressive party that later led to the formation of the co-operative commonwealth federation (CCF).

Nellie McClung and The Person's Case.


Who is she? (1 sentence)
Nellie McClung was born in Chatsworth Ontario, in 1873. Her father was an irish methodist, and a scottish presbyterian mother. She and her parents moved to Maitoba in 1880.

Why is she an important leader? (3 sentences
Nellie McClung was a feminist, in 1916 Manitoba become the first province to give the right to vote and run for public office.
McClung was a supporter of the popular social philsophy in eugenics and champaigned for the steriliztaion of thoses considered.
She also served as a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1921 - 1926.

Dalai Lama


Who is he? (1 sentence)
The Dalai Lama is the spiritual and political leader of the tibetan people according to tibetan buddhism.
Why is he a civic role model? (3 sentences)
Dalai Lama believed to be the current incarnation of a long line of Tulkus, or Buddhist Masters, who have become exempt from the wheel of death and rebirth.
These ascended masters have chosen of their own free will to be reborn to this place in order to teach humanity.
During the Kalachakra Empowerment last week in Bloomington, in the presence of an international audience of some 5000 people, HH would laugh at himself when he made a mistake during a most complex part of the ceremony, when we, the participants, were probably getting a little tight trying so hard to follow along and do the visualizations.

Terry Fox Role Model



Who is he?
Terry Fox was born in Conquitlam, British Columbia. His dream was to run across Canada to help raise money for cancer research.

Why was he a "civic role model?" (3reasons)
Terry Fox was a civic role model because he followed his dream, never gave up, until the cancer spreaded into his lungs. Other than that he was a strong person and never gave up on something he believed in. :)
